The General Register Office index of RAF deaths overseas gives his unit as

    2 ADU (Aircraft Delivery unit)

His name is listed as Killed on Active Service in Flight Magazine , RAF Casualty List #221.

This would point to an aircraft crash.

    Default FSGT Tanner

    Hi Guys

Further to the information below, FSGT Tanner was undertaking a Ferry flight (Unit as suggested below was 2ADU), when Kittyhawk I AL148 stalled on approach into Martubah I and aircraft spun into the ground, the aircraft may have been undertaking the ferry flight from 3MU ARU (aircraft noted being tested there a couple of days prior to the accident). I have the date as the 5th Feb but will reconfirm from the AM1178.
