Default F/O William John BENTLEY 12/8/44

    Hi,

I have recently come into contact with the relatives of F/O J/18928 William John BENTLEY who was killed on 12/8/44 whilst on an armed recce over Normandy.

I believe that he served with 443 Squadron RCAF and was, at one time, Jonnie Johnson's wing man.

Would anyone have the details of his aircraft and the ORB for the day in question.

    Many thanks, regards,

    Graeme

Default Update re F/O William john BENTLEY.

This is updated on behalf of Cyril 'Ben' Bentley my father.

    With regards to F/O W J Bentley, 443 Sqn. KIA 12/08/1944.

I am his cousin. He spent his leave with us when he was in Swanpool, Lincoln, England. In total he flew 582 hours of which 475 hours on the Spitfire. I have his log book which I had researched over the years. My son obtained a copy of a book 'Angels Eight' which I have cross referenced with Bill's log book. I also have letters from his friend Sdn Ldr McLeod and W/Cdr Jonnie Johnson. Bill was with Sdn Ldr Mc leod in Matla.

Any further information or photographs would be appreciated.

    Ben.
