Default Final air combats on the Norwegian coast - 1945

    Hello,

still trying to close the JG 5 chronicle, I face up several more problems.
Can anybody answer the following questions?

_On 28 March 1945, Oblt. Gloeckner, Stk. of 11./JG 5 was shot down by a Mustang. Does anybody know who was the Mustang pilot, his unit and the circumstances of the combat?

_ On 10 April 1945. Is there any claim against a Me 109 on the Norwegian coast? One unverified source evokes the loss of a Bf 109 shot down by an Allied fighter.

    Thank you in advance.

It is not easy to confirm your information.

ORBs do not record any Mustang ops over Norway/Scandinavia on 28 March. Mustangs were involved on 25 March and 65 Sqn made claims.

There were no Mustang ops over Norway/Scandinavia on 10 April.

    Perhaps friendly fire incidents?
Erik, if it is necessary, I have more details on the missions, when Poles encountered JG5, from all RAF units involved. Also some photos taken after the fight on 30 July 1944.

    Hi Steve, Hi Franek,

thank you very much for the interesting replies.
Yes, this is a strange story. Maybe Gloeckner got engine troubles and thought that he had been hit by ennemy fire? Or it was not Mustang, but a fighter coming from an aircraft carrier. There were some in that area, but I don't easily find documentation about their missions against the Luftwaffe in Norway. Maybe someone has documentation on this...

Franek, yes JG 5 was often involved against Pol. Squ. If you want, we can compare our datas. I suppose that you have my e-mail? if not, www.luftwaffe.be

    Best regards

    Hi
I think that possibilities of friendly fire should not be underestimated, but how about simple clerk error? I think it would be the best to compare Gloeckner's account with reports of the RAF airmen. Sometimes it is even to possible to nail down particular opponent.
PS I do have. I will write you later.

There was an action on the 11th April involving Mustangs and Mosquitos off Norway in which a 109 was claimed, if that's any help.
