    Default FIDO book lookup please?

    Hi all

I don't have a copy so I just wonder if someone who has could possibly take a look for me in the book 'Flying through Fire', about FIDO, and tell me if it gives any info about the 85 a/c that landed at Woodbridge with the aid of FIDO on 16/11/1944. The ORB records that they arrived but gives no times, identities or anything else.

Just wondering if these were RAF or USAAF, or a mixture of both.

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Ian,
Williams does not list the aircraft but he does mention some of them. With visibility deteriorating the FIDO was lit at 1135 and burned for the next eight hours while, as you mention, 85 aircraft landed.
First in was Halifax 'P' of 192 Squadron. Sixty USAAF aircraft landed including B-17s from the 493BG, 14 P-51s, B-24s and a P-47. RAF/RCAF machines included Halifax 'H' of 434 Squadron (F/O Kowalch), Lancaster 'Y' of 431 Squadron, 218 Squadron Lancasters including 'J' (F/L John O'Brien) and Lancaster 'C' of 622 Squadron (Tony Waigh).
FLYING THROUGH FIRE is an excellent book, highly recommended.

    Default Fido

Thanks Ian. A bit more detail there to add to the notes.

And maybe yet another book to get hold of for the collection! :-)

    Cheers
