    Default Luftwaffe death registrations

Does anyone know the reason why Luftwaffe casualties do not regularly appear on the death registers for England & Wales and also Scotland?

    Are they recorded elsewhere?

    Hi Alan,

i have found in the past that sometimes i have been unable to find Luftwaffe casualties as their names are so wildly inaccurate in their spelling. If at first i have been unable to find them, i have tried by either searching for just their first name, trying variants of their surname or simply going through all surnames beginning with the same first letter of the casualty's surname. I've been able to consequently track down all German casualties in Shropshire in this way (albeit not a huge number).

Just adding my thoughts in case it helps!

    Cheers, Tom

I see what you mean. I've just checked one in Staffordshire and two of the crew were in, and the other two are on the register as Unknown Male. So it looks as though in the absence of identification they may have gone on the registers as unknown, only to be later identified when information was received via the Red Cross.
