    Default 5 (C) OTU - Beaufort JM452 - 18-6-1943

    Hello,

On the 18-6-1943, 5 (C) OTU Beaufort I JM452, flew into high ground at Ballytoag, below Davis Mountain, Co. Antrim. I believe the following four airmen were involved in this incident:

AUS413516 Sgt Arnold Mease BLACKET RAAF - Injured
    1526244 Sgt J G MILLER - survived
    J/110986 Sgt D S SMITH RCAF - survived
    J/97078 Sgt F J WALLA RCAF - survived

The title of Blacket's undigitised A705 has this incident occurring at Ballytong, Northern Ireland on 28-6-1943. Blacket's A705 has an Accumulation start date of 20-6-1943. They could hardly open a file on 20-6-1943 for an incident that happened 8-days later!

Can anyone assist with this dilemma?

    Col.

The ORB confirms that Blacket and Miller were on the aircraft.

June 17th 1943, “Beaufort JM452 crashed at Ballytoag foot of Davis Mountain Antrim, Sgt Miller and Sgt Brackett (Pilot and Observer) respectively injured, they were taken to Stranmillis Hospital, Belfast; other two members of crew uninjured.”

I'd say it is just an error in recording that lead to the 28th rather than 18th (probably night of the 17th / 18th given the date in the ORB).

    Hi Col and Al,

I confirm the time and date of crash as 02:15 hrs on the 18th. The aircraft took off just before midnight on the 17th.

    Col,
And of course the "J" in the RCAF svcnrs must be "R".
