So was that the incident in December you mentioned Alan? Which squadron was he with at the time? From the listing in Flight, it sounds like he was still at 100 Sqn but shortly afterwards he was promoted and moved to 625. Is that how it went?

    Hi Dave,
Hugh has confirmed my thoughts on the 16/17th Dec 43, whilst Pearce was with 625sqdn, his aircraft was one of very many that made it back to the UK after ops to Berlin, only to find the weather was so bad, that many were diverted from their normal bases but were still lost. Remembered as Black Thursday, and covered very well for 97sqdn on the website firebynight.co.uk by the daughter of one of those involved.
    Regards......Alan.

So, is the Sgt. "Pearse" notation in Flight, someone else who happened to be with 100 Sqn?

    Hi Dave,
Confusing! your man was made Sgt 9th Dec 43 but my man was already a Sgt when posted from 100sqdn to 625 in Oct 43, i guess the only way to find out if they are two different men is if someone can look in the 100sqdn ORB.
    Alan.
