    Default Martinet MS638 12 AGS 23.09.43 Sgt TOAMEY (?) K.G. 1336578

    Dear All,

Can anyone confirm the pilot lost on Martinet MS638 was Sgt TOAMEY, K.G. (Spl?) (1336578) and, in addition, if the T.T.O. was Aircraftman 1st Class PARKINSON, Arthur (1549143). Aircraft ditched into sea 10 miles East of St Johns Point, Co. Down on the 23.09.1943.

    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

Yes, both of the people you have for this incident are correct, though the ORB has Tormey and not Toamey.

September 23rd 1943, “Martinet No.M.5638 crashed in sea. Pilot – Sgt Tormey – rescued by ship “Queenie” 1549143, AC1 Parkinson, A., Tow Target Operator killed.”

September 23rd 1943, “An aircraft of this Unit (Martinet) forced landed in the Irish Sea engine trouble: the pilot 1336578 Sgt Tormey was able to get out of the plane as soon as it settled in the sea. He was picked up by passing boat and returned to this Unit on 24.9.43. Examined on arrival here and found Fit Full Flying Duties.”

Kenneth Gordon Tormey name appears in Royal Aero Club membership, certificate issued 1947 from United Services Club.

    Died in May 2003

His family is mentioned on this Tormey family history page.

Thanks friends for this info. AC1 Arthur PARKINSON - 1549143 was still on my list of airmen unaccounted for (Runnymede Panel 171).
    Regards,
    Henk.

    Default A.C.1 Arthur Parkinson

Hi Henk - just come across this thread. I am preparing a WWII Book of Remembrance for all those listed on the Birstall (Yorkshire) War Memorial which includes Arthur.

I have a photograph of him and family details - are you interested.

Also I have about five other Runnymede Airmen that I am researching - would you have collected information about others on the Runnymede Memorial

Hope to hear from you ....... Regards Tony

Ross - I've just had a message from Tony saying he has now seen the post regarding Henk's death.
