Default Luftwaffe Casualties - Uk 1939-45

Please can anybody point me in the direction of a list of Luftwaffe casualties who were killed in operations over UK in the 1939-45 period.

My interest is to ensure that when recording events, I am detailing not just allied personnel but also the enemy fatalities.

An example is the famous case of Sgt Bruce Hancock, who is said to have rammed an He111 in 1941. Who were the Luftwaffe crew and where are they buried? They would certainly have been given an honorable burial. I also believe they were formally recorded in the Register of Deaths for the place where they died.

There are, of course, many Luftwaffe graves around the country and some concentrations of enemy dead at places like Cannock but relating an event to a place of burial is a tad more complicated!

Any help or thoughts most welcome.

    Hi
As a start I would suggest getting a look,Via your library,at 2 books published by After the Battle."The Battle of Britain-Then and Now" and "The Blitz then and Now(3 Volumes)".They are large and expensive(hence the library) and despite the title the Blitz covers the whole war. Each has a section devoted to the Luftwaffe and this contains quite a lot of detail of losses of Aircrew but needs a lot of searching. The books are all edited by Winston Ramsey but have several specialist contributors. They should provide a reasonable starting point
    Regards

Bruce Hancosvk incident 18th August 1940 ! He was flying Anson L9164. The Heinkel was He 111P werknummer 1408 of II/KG 27 which crashed at Blackpits Farm, Aldsworth, Glos.
Crew (all killed) and buried at Cannock Chase German Military Cemetery, Staffordshire, England.

    Luftwaffe crew:

    Unteroffizer Ewald Cohrs.
62682/42 or 62682/44 Unteroffizer Herbert Rave.
    62682/42 Unteroffizer Richard Schmidt.
    Obfe Alfred Dreher.

If you join airforcedeaths on yahoo groups you can get access to a series of files that lists graves in the UK that the CWGC look after for Non-Commonweath. There is a list of German graves for WW1 and WW2 - Though I do not believe it to be complete, as it is ONLY the graves CWGC officially look after on behalf of the nation of those killed.

    Gents

I believe the name of the farm to be 'Blackpits', which is a little to the west of Windrush Airfield.

Casualties were recorded in the Air Intelligence (K Branch) files at the National Archives. While titled as Interrogation of German and Italian Prisoners of War: Reports they includes reports on seemingly all crashes & bodies washed ashore etc. They are in AIR 40/2394 to AIR 40/2426.

In a similar vein to what Paul has said the War Grave & Memorial Photographic Project site lists quite a lot of the German casualties buried in the UK, however there are a lot which are listed as German Army who were Air Force. That is particularly true with Cannock Chase. Their site is http://twgpp.org/

Some "new" information has come on stream. Time for an update.

Of course, The Luftwaffe and Allied Air Forces Discussion Forum is a spectacular resource: http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/

The Luffwaffe Research Group Forum: http://luftwaffe-research-group.org/index.php

    Finally:
Enormous effort is underway inputting Luftwaffe losses into the LostAircraft's "Forum Member Editable" database. See: http://lostaircraft.com/database.php?lang=en
    - Information (full names, crew position, pictures etc) will improve as time passes.

Add 'em if you've got em. K? (More sources for Luftwaffe casualty research.)

    PS:
There is an unpublished url for LostAircraft's Advanced Database Search Engine. Worth saving in your favorites.
    See: http://www.lostaircraft.com/database...en&mode=search

Note that Aircraft Losses for MANY theaters of war are being added to LostAircraft.
    - USAAF, the Mediterranean Theatre, North Africa, SEAC, Finland, Italy's Regia Aeronautica (Lots of information at: Commando Supremo)
    - plus France & the Polish Air Forces in the Battle of France etc etc. Enjoy!
