Default Information needed on Typhoon IB R8865

Who can give me more information on the Typhoon IB R8865 with Flying Officer (Pilot) Aldwyn Geoffrey Howard Rouse of 56 Squadron ? It crashed on January 13th 1943 in dunes of The Hague, The Netherlands.

What's the reason that it crashed and what was his mission ?
From wich RAF-base was it coming ?
And did he succeed his mission ?

    Default Last sortie Rouse/R8865

These details are from the squadron ORB. Flg Off A.G.H.Rouse was flying one of four Typhoons of 56 Squadron which positioned from their base at Matlask to Ludham early on 13 January 1943. With tanks topped up they set out on a 'Rhubarb' on the Den Haag (Hague) area. The formation was led by the commanding officer, Sqn Ldr A.C.Johnston, his number two was Flg Off E.N.Cluderay. The other pair was led by Flt Lt G.Piltingsrud (Norwergian) and his number two was Rouse. They took off from Ludham at 0920.

As soon as they crossed the Dutch coast, flying at roof top level, they experienced very heavy flak and over Den Haag Johnston was see to be hit and pull up to 1000 feet. (He was later reported PoW and was claimed (as a Hurricane) by a German flak battery at 0956 hours). At the same time Piltingsrud last saw Rouse gliding down at about 500 feet. (He was also claimed by German flak at 0956 hours, SW of Den Haag). Rouse's aircraft, R8865 was coded 'US-T' and had flown 69 hours 40 minutes when lost.

Cluderay attacked a railway siding and Piltingsrud a barge, before returning. The losses were the first operational losses inflicted on the squadron for 18 months and were keenly felt.

    Hi Henk,

Thanks for the information. What's the source (like archive) of this information ?
And is the plane already excavated ?

    Thanks!
    Ronald

    Ronald,
Don't know whether or not crash site excavated. Exact location came from a former friend, "Kijkduin" as the location was in the book "...en nooit was het stil" Vol.1, page 451, author Gerrit J. Zwanenburg.

Thanks ! The only thing is that the Dr. Welylaan (name of the lane) is not at Kijkduin but in the Vogelwijk , near Duindorp/Scheveningen.

    Ronald.
I have probably the smallest bit of information
    about Typhoon R8865.

R8865 Typhoon of 56 Squadron force landed
near The Hague presumed hit by flak 13.1.43.
From HAWKER TYPHOON The Combat History
    by Richard Townshend Bickers

    Awfully slim pickings
