    Default Welliington II Z8515

    Hello,

Could someone help with a up-to-date description of the fate of Wellington II Z8515? Have some details, but sketchy.

    Thanks.

    Errol,

Thanks for the updated info on Wellington II Z8515. A-B's description is identical with the information I had from a 1984 copy of their X-Z Serials.

    I now have the following:

    14/15-7-1943
    No.104 Sqn.
    Wellington II Z8515 'S'

    Missing, Naples. No further details.

    R/68749 W/O (Pilot) W L SLEEMAN RCAF - PoW (L6/671)
    R/55629 Sgt ( - ? - ) J M G CANTIN RCAF - PoW (18A/9024)
    1331341 Sgt ( - ? - ) D A CLARK - PoW ( L3/226555)
    1251251 Sgt ( - ? - ) T B JONES - PoW (18A/8544)
    AUS405785 W/O ( - ? - ) Bernard Joseph LEWIS RAAF - PoW (L6/667)

All the above personnel are reported as 'Missing', in Flight, Oct 7, 1943. p.408. Cas. Comm. No.291.

F R Chappell in, "Wellington Wings" (p.183), mentions the following:

    14th July 1943.
    Naples tonight.

    15th July 1943.
'S for Sugar' (Warrant Officer Sloeman) [sic], is missing and no news except that he had some engine trouble and he was making for home.

Would welcome corrections/additions to all of the above.

    Col.

    Default Rootschat

There is a very nice bloke called Brian (handle ADM199) on Rootschat who is brilliant with POW stuff. Might be worth contacting him to see if he has anything on these guys... Hes not available till the New Year but is very good at getting back to you.
