    Default 309 Sqn Lysanders V9608 and V9472

    Hi,

18th June 1941; While returning from a training flight a very pistol went of in the cockpit of V9608. With the aircraft on fire the pilot was bale to carry out a successful landing at Dunino, Fife.

25th February 1942; While carrying out practise dive-bombing attacks on a gun position Fly Off Piotr Dunin pulled out too late and V9472 crashed near Kenbridge, Fife. Fly Off Jerzy Homan was also killed in the crash.

Would anyone know the names of the crew that were in V9608 and the codes for both Lysanders. Also Dunin and Homan are buried in Dumfries. Does anyone know which cemetery?

The above info comes from RAF Airfields in the Second World War, Vol 2 Fife and Central Region by Martyn Chorlton.

    Any help appreciated.

    Alex

    Hello Alex,

I have looked at the Scottish death register re Homan & Dunin and find that the accident took place on the Castle Douglas to Dalry road, near Ken Bridge, New Galloway, Kirkcudbright, not in Fife as per ABS crash list. I have passed this correction on to AB. Can't help with the burial sites, sorry.

    regards

Both Dunin and Homan are buried at St.Andrews cemetery, Dumfries.
Nothing remains today as the aircraft dived into the road.

    Hi guys,

Many thanks for your replies. I'll amend my notes re Homan and Dunin as not having crashed in Fife.
