    Default 11-06-1940 Blenheim L8749

Evening, just a quick one before the rugby ... does anyone know the details of the entry in chorley for the above aircraft ? page 75 states aircraft was lost on an operation to rouen, however crew details seem erroneous. the crew listed, on cwgc are all listed belonging to 45 sqn and on the alamein memorial .. and "geoffs search page" shows up nothing for 110 sqn on specific date.

    any ideas ?

    Cheers

    Mark.

    Hi Mark
There must be an additional source because the same a/c crops up in Warner's Blenheim as being lost from a raid to Rouen on 11/06/40 from 110 Sqn but Warner has no further details beyond that it was shot down in the target area. There is clearly no known grave for any of the crew and hence the Memorial. Although Alamein is odd , from other posts on this and the old board, such entries are not unknown. The crew names that Chorley gives for this a/c in his Vol 2 are the same as those given by Gunby and Temple in Bomber Losses in ths M.E and Med Vol 1 for a 45 Sqn Blenheim L8476 lost into the sea after being hit by flak whilst attacking El Adem on 11/06/40, and this is also in "Blenheim"(It would explain the Alamein Memorial which is mentioned by Warner)
The thread posted by Amrit has the crew in 2 a/c in Warner's Blenheim but from the date'04 I think that could be from the 1st edition published in '02, as there are no such details against the 110 Sqn a/c,in the 2nd edition published in '05 and I quoted from that.
    Regards
    Dick
