Kevin J. B. O’Callaghan

Stephen O'Callaghan's Collection

"My father , Kevin J. B. O’Callaghan was assigned to RAF Squadron 204, (not 270), and was the navigator on EK588 when it crash on take-off at Port Etienne, All crew and all nine passengers saved. The pilot was Flight Officer Stevens. (refer to copy of original log attached). My dad told me that there was one casualty, their dog mascot that went with them on a number of missions, didn’t survive the crash. There is no record of RAF Squadron 204 ever destroying U-boats, but from the log the crew of DV959 came very close.

I have attached some photographs (probably more than you like), Kevin married Jean Adey from Shirley, Birmingham, England 17/03/1945. The photos of the crew on the beach, the inscription on the back states; “Ramage is next to me, then Wyatt’s legs, next Robbie drinking with Steve in the background” “Self, Bernie, Ramage, Wyatt, Robbie eating bananas, with Spooner at the end, April 1944”
