Hurricane IIB AP897, 261 Squadron somewhere in the middle east in early 1942. From my Grandfather's wartime photos. He is standing on the wing, and was an aircraft fitter with the unit during the war.

261 squadron moved to the Far East in early 1942 to join the campaign in Burma.

This Hurricane was hit by flak and crashed into the sea on 27th June 1943 whist providing top cover to a force of 45 Sqn Vultee Vengeance dive bombers attacking Akyab in Burma. The pilot, Flying Officer Colin Fallon, RAAF was on his first operation and did not survive.
