Hawker Tempest II from Delhi – an eBay Auction ends.

This recent original photograph printed on Air Ministry paper went on auction on Ebay and went for record prices originally reserved for something with ‘Spitfire’ in its description! The photo shows a Hawker Tempest Mark II  landing at Safdarjang airfield in India during the Victory week in New Delhi in 1946. The Victory week saw a whole fleet of aircraft flying into the airfield (Then known as willingdon) and opened for display to the public for about a week.

Anyways this photograph – opened with a standard 9.99 GBP bid went for 85.73 GBP by the time the auction ended! Thats nearly $116. It i understandable for a rare photograph – but this photo was already been previously published and was not new.

Initially I thought there was a bidder with an interest in Mughal era tombs, but there seems to be a renewed interest in Tempest photographs as can be seen in the seller goldy2311’s selling history.  Quite a few photographs have gone for high amounts
