P/O John R. McLAREN - 78975 - 271 Sqn (Doncaster, Yorkshire, flying Harrow, Bombay and Ford a/c) - killed on active service (Flight Global), buried St.Pol War Cem., Dept. Pas-de-Calais, France.

Is it possible that he was on board DC3 - OO-AUI of 24 Sqn, crashed at Arques, Pas-de-Calais) or on Savoia S.73 OO-AGS (SABENA attd RAF) that crashed near Calais.

Also refer to my previous threat regarding BOAC-Captain John M. HOARE.

Regards and thanks for your help.

Henk.

hello Henk,

I have him as pilot of Savoia-Marchetti SM-73P OO-AGS, ex-SABENA, more or less "impressed" by the R.A.F. and used by No. 271 Squadron from Doncaster. After having taken off from Merville airfield, OO-AGS was shot down by Bf-109s. Belgian flight engineer Armand PEETERS (SABENA) jumped from the planes seconds only before she crashed and survived. Belgian airline pilot Victor MOREAU (SABENA) was also killed in the crash.

No idea where AGS crashed, St Pol sur Ternoise is roughly west of Merville.

Would be interested to know more about it from other members of the board.

Joss

Thanks Joss. Also look forward for any comments, like burial location of the Belgian pilot Victor MOREAU.

Regards,

Henk.
