|Shropshire's casualties and aircraft crashes
|My father W T Martin (1331938) was a rear gunner injured in a Whitley prang at 81 OTU Whitchurch Heath on 2 Feb 1943. The pilot is given in your injury list - Sgt A C Best (1425181). The aircraft Z6496 lost an engine on approach, crash landed and burnt out. The crew were injured but not killed. Other names of the crew were Sgts Waugh, Wisbey and Hockney. Bit of a long shot but I wondered if your records show more about the incident or the crew. I am also trying to find out if my father ever flew again, or whether injury precluded this. By mid-1943, he had moved out of flying and into other RAF duties (fire fighting instructor). I already have the basic incident report and my father's service record, as releasable. There is a possibility that he was involved in a second incident in April 1943, but I have found nothing so far. Thanks ....Read More.
