DetailsTook off 2109 25 July 1940 from Lindholme. Damaged by enemy action and was heard on W/T 0215 26 July 1940 indicating port engine failure over Cuxhaven and that the crew was heading for Calais.

P O Thomas Monks TaylorSwinno The Ormskirk Advertiser of August 1st 1940 reported the following: [I]FORMER ORMSKIRKIAN'S SAD DEATH Killed at Sea Whilst Returning Home in Plane We regret to announce the death of Pilot Officer Thomas Monks Taylor, of the Royal Air Force, who was killed last Thursday whilst returning from operations over enemy territory with a damaged engine. The plane crashed into the sea near to the English coast, and all the crew were killed. Three bodies, one being that of Pilot Officer Taylor, were recovered by a lifeboat. One of the crew is missing [Sgt. Stewart]. Pilot Officer Taylor was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Taylor, of "Westholme," College Road, Crosby, and formerly of the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Ormskirk, where the deceased officer was born. He was 30 years of age. He was educated at Holmwood, Freshfield, and St. Bees, Cumberland, from where he went to the Hudson Bay Company, Canada, for five years. On returning to England, he had been in the corn and provender business until September, 1939. Previous to then he had joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and was called up on the commencement of hostilities as a leading aircraftman.
