This page commemorates

Flight Sergeant John Francis Colthup WHITTLE (1394221) of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

Air Gunner

Circumstances of Death: He was dangerously injured when he fell between the train and the platform at Charing Cross station at 22:15 Hours on 18 January . Admitted to Charing Cross hospital, he died of his injuries at 02:07 Hours Whittle is a CLASSIC example of why mere " died at X hospital " devalues this database in my opinion. Whittle is already " accounted " on the database, and whilst useful as the hospital location of death is, it is simply not an accounting in my mind, as they could have died of a multitude of causes, whereas the current implication is a natural death (via Jon Heyworth)
