Hello Paul,

Could find nothing in "Final Landings" or "Broken Wings".

Two early accidents were 26/01/46 - NM819 and 07/02/46 - SM887.
And
Two later accidents were 12/12/46 - NM817 and 15/01/47 - TZ115.

First two - Malaya, second two Japan.

Good Hunting
Alex

Can I ask if the death of Flt Lt Quick is a 'confirmed aircraft accident' for which you are seeking aircraft details or is it a death which might be the result of an air accident but equally could be something else?

I also can't find a Spitfire on the date given but have found some gaps in Spitfire losses in the Accident Cards held at RAF Museum Hendon.

May I suggest the Form 540 or a quick call to the squadron (before it disbands finally - not flying anymore) might help.

Thank you for your replies.
I am looking at the Log Book of FL/Lt John Tayleur who was with 11 Squadron based at Miho in Japan. His entry for July 15 1946 lists flypast (Spitfire NH866) over the grave of F/O Quick at Kure. I have assumed it was an air accident that killed him but it may not have been.

Thanks

In those days, the funeral of any squadron member would probably have warranted a flypast, so I suggest that Quick's death might not have resulted from an aircraft accident. Illness, accidental death, even murder could be the cause.

I still think the Form 540 will reveal all.
