His splendid example has set a fine standard to other members of the squadron.
FRASER, Alexander Primrose, Engineer IB (1822311, Royal Air Force) - No.202 Squadron, Aldergrove, Coastal Command - King’s Commendation for Valuable Services in the Air - awarded as per London Gazette dated 1 January 1951. Recommended when he had flown 1,290 hours, 614 on current duties, 96 in previous six months. Text from Air 2/10106 courtesy of Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan R.D. Hipkins.
Engineer IB Fraser was posted to this squadron in June 1948, and has now completed 69 long range meteorological sorties. On two of these sorties his aircraft has suffered brake failure during flight, one occasion being partial and the other complete. By his skill, initiative and knowledge this Non-Commissioned Officer was able to make temporary repairs in flight which provided sufficient brake pressure for the Captain to execute a safe landing at base. At all times he has set a fine example by the exceptionally high standard he has set in carrying out his duties. His enthusiasm has been an inspiration to his comrades.
HARDWICK, Roy Evan, Signaler I (576523, Royal Air Force) - No.202 Squadron, Aldergrove, Coastal Command - Air Force Medal - awarded as per London Gazette dated 1 January 1951. Recommended when he had flown 2,450 hours, 1,370 on current duties, 188 in previous six months. Text from Air 2/10106 courtesy of Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan R.D. Hipkins.
Signaler I Hardwick has served with No.202 Squadron since October 1948, the commencement of his present tour of meteorological flying. Together with his previous flying tour on this duty, he has completed 121 long range meteorological sorties, often executed under very arduous and exacting conditions. As a signaler he has displayed outstanding ability over this long period. On many occasions his technical skill and initiative in the air have enabled the aircraft to regain lost wireless contact and ensure the completion of the sortie, and the safety of the aircraft and crew. His keenness, skill and example have served as a fine inspiration to other aircrew.
MACKIE, Alexander Peter, Pilot I (1603653, Royal Air Force) - No.202 Squadron, Aldergrove, Coastal Command - Air Force Medal - awarded as per London Gazette dated 1 January 1951. Recommended when he had flown 2,193 hours, 1,043 on current duties, 217 in previous six months. Text from Air 2/10106 courtesy of Lieutenant-Colonel Jonathan R.D. Hipkins.
Pilot I Mackie has carried out 119 long range meteorological sorties, 54 of which have been made since February 1949. He is shortly completing his second tour of long range meteorological flying. Much of his flying has been carried out during four winter months when flying conditions may be exacting and arduously, particularly in the case of a sortie which does not permit any deviation from route, height or procedure through bad weather. Throughout this long period he has consistently showed himself to be a pilot and captain of exceptional skill and resource. By his example, keenness, very high standard of efficiency and quiet confidence he has materially raised the standard of all aircrews who have come into contact with him.
