Hello,

Need some help in positively identifying a couple of No.5 Sqn. Hurricanes. No.5 Sqn lost two Hurricanes on 20-5-1944, the aircraft were last seen taking-off from Lanka airfield. l believe one of the missing Hurricanes was LD388, piloted by R/135134 F/S (Pilot) Joseph Willie Yvon BIBEAU RCAF. The other Hurricane was piloted by J/4920 F/L (Pilot) Edward Gray THURSTON RCAF, the last three digits of this aircraft are quoted as "683".

The CWGC and the CVWM both incorrectly quote Thurston's unit as 55 Sqn.

Can anyone help with the correct Hurricane serials?

Thanks,

Col.

nothing came of it. Air War For Burma/Shores p.232, also mentions the incident (albeit naming Thurston as Thornton).
