Hello
I'm considering purchasing two A13950 files from the National Archives of Australia, for two Royal Australian Air Force pilots who were captured after being shot down in combat in my area. I've never seen any before, so I'm asking if any forum members can advise on this series of documents. Is it confirmed they contain German captured documents about the capture of the airmen ?
TIA

Hello Joss,
Here is a digitised example of an A13950 File:

Click on the highlighted A13950 symbol for a full description of this series. (Don't forget to click on the "More" symbol at the bottom of the abbreviated entry).

Joss,
I'm likely to be going to the NAA in the next few months or so; if you can wait that long I can have a look or get digital photos for you?

Joss,
Or one a bit closer to home that might be of interest (An Australian in the RAF):

Hello
Thanks to you both.
Col, both links give me a page with the mention that "Your search has timed out before a result was found.", but I think I understand your suggestion, and I'll try to have a sample at random. Unless you can give the surname and service number to have a look at the digitised document.
Adam, I'll tell you following the access mentionned above, but I'm likely to order these two copies to add to my archives. By the way, I have the ORB for No. 61 Squadron for the Lille-Fives raid as you once asked, and will send it to you.
Regards

Joss,
Try them both again, now (4:44PM 11/09/2013).
As a back-up, access these files:
Example No.1 is: 404200 F/O Guy Donald CUTHBERTSON RAAF.
No.2 is 37048 W/C Howard Rennix LARKIN AFC RAFVR

Hello again
The direct links provided the same page, but a normal record search with the names and service numbers worked all right. Many thanks.
What is interesting is that the PoW ID card contains a picture, and that is already a very good point. So I'll probably order the two files I've located there, and will trawl through the catalogue to order some more.
I'm especially looking for the place of capture, and in LARKIN's case, it is mentioned Dunkirk. But in our research, "near Dunkirk" or "near St Omer" is not precise enough...
By the way, may I ask you if you have LARKIN's unit and machine when he was lost and captured ? Not listed in "Footprints in the sands of time", BCL or FCL. A Coastal Command loss ?
Thanks again for your help.

Joss,

I don't have full details, but others should be able to fill the gaps.

Hello
Thanks Col and Ross for the additional informations. Will put Larkin and Smallwood on the list for the next PoW questionnaires to look for in the WO344 series at Kew. Have already trawled through some volumes of Taylors and Evans, but didn't copy these two 217 Squadron airmen.
This makes us languish even more with the much awaited CCL volume 2 !
Regards
Joss
