View Full Version : 410520 - Unaccounted airmen - 20-5-1941

On a list of allied aircraft losses/accidents and crew casualties in Somerset 1939-1945 is mentioned for 20-5-1941:
Henley I - L3442 - 1 AACU Weston Zoyland, crashed on target tow practice, 2 crew members killed.
AB Serials however has for L3442: 1 AACU/1613 Flt/1623 Flt/1601 Flt - swung on landing and u/c collapsed, Weston Zoyland, 25.10.43, DBR.
On my 'unaccounted list' are for 20-5-1941 among other:
Sgt (Pilot) James LAMBERT - 513451 and Sgt (Ag) Claude JONES - 953904.
Is it possible these airmen were killed in the accident and L3442 repaired ?
Regards and thanks for your help.
Henk.

Forgot to check Aeromilitaria list "Crashes in UK" and Somerset list probably wrong; both airmen may have been killed on Tiger Moth II - N9274 - 10 EFTS - dived into ground Weston-super-Mare.

Henk.

Hi Henk
Both Lambert,29, and Jones,24, are registered in the 2nd Qtr of 1941 at Brixworth, Northamptonshire about 7 mls N of Northampton itself. A long way from Weston Zoyland.

I too have James Lambert as a Sergeant (Pilot) 'killed on active service' and interred at Denny and Dunipace Cemetery. His home address was 16 Loanhead Drive, Denny.
He was 29 years of age and his father Gunner Charles Graham Lambert of the Royal Field Artillery was killed in Belgium on 12 November 1917. The mother was Marjory Agnes Lambert.

Hi Henk
Artington also looks close enough for deaths to be recorded at Brixworth

Hello
Sgt (Pilot) James LAMBERT - 513451 - the Falkirk Herald of May 24th 1941 reported the following:
DENNY AIRMAN KILLED
After being posted as missing a few days ago, official intimation was received yesterday that Sergt. Pilot James Lambert, of the R.A.F., has been killed in a flying accident.
The Graves Registration Forms list both him and Jones as being with 37 M.U.
Oddly there's another thread for this date:
