I am trying to find out more of this squadron (Air Transport Command) in which my father, Douglas John Cook served. In particular, any anecdotal information and true stories from veterans who served in this squadron - or who knew my late father. I have a fair bit of history and a few photographs (more photographs always most welcome).

If anyone else is also seeking information about this squadron, please contact me and I'll let you have what I have already researched.

The officer I am researching, FL. Lt. John Forde, DFC, flew out to India with this squadron in Feb 1945, ending up at Comilla. Posted to 52 Sqn in April '45.

I have sent you a PM

Hi Alan
I have informed the person in the squadron about your blogs and he will be in touch. It is a training squadron now and use jaguar.
A couple of the lads came to visit my Dad a couple of weeks ago and I have given them copies of log book and photographs.

Hi Alan

I noticed you have been on RAF 238 Squadron site, so has the current squadron who are "building" a history of 238

I have been researching one of the Dakotas that my father flew in when in Burma. He flew to meiktila and
IT STILL EXISTING in a museum in Germany, One of the squadron are going to visit.
Below is the history of where it has been. If you go to their website you can see it.
Also found this photo of it.

49847 (c/n 15663/27108) to RAF as Dakota IV KN239. Returned to USAAF
Nov 27, 1947. To India and Pakistan as H-718. To England and
Field Aircraft Services (Hunting Aviation) as G-ANMB. After another period of about
a year flying for Aigle-Azur Indochine as F-BGSM the aircraft came to Deutches Lufthansa
as D-CADE and later Bavaria Flug-dienst with the same registration. Transair of Sweden
leased the aircraft between March and December 1961. After returning to Bavaria the
aircraft ended in the South Arabian Air Force in 1967 as G-41-2-67 and later
on South Yemen Peoples Republic Air Force as 202. Recent report that this plane is
at Auto and Technik Museum, Sinsheim, Germany

Hi Alan,

I've just seen this as I haven't checked this section for a while. See message #2 on this thread - we did have an exchange of emails circa 18/19/20 September last year. The info you provided was very useful. Thanks again.

Cheers
