What caused the death of and/or what were the places of death registration for:

Sgt (WOp) Henry KNOWLES - 639811 - 233 Sqn (Leuchars, Fife) - died of wounds or injuries received on active service, and

AC1 John W. COLLEY - 640700 - 1 BC 901 (Balloon) Sqn, London/Abbey Wood - killed on active service - death registered at Holborn.

Aircraft losses for this day:
Blenheim I - L1525 - 3 RSS - crashed on take-off Horsham St.Faith (possibly Horseford)
Roc I - L3172 - 2 AACU - crashed in forced landing Binfield Road, Portsmouth
Tiger Moth II - N6964 - 24 Sqn - crashed in forced landing Borehamwood, Herts.
Tiger Moth II - N9327 - 1 EFTS - flew into ground near Welwyn Garden City, Herts.

What caused the death of and/or what were the places of death registration for the following airmen, all killed on active service:

Cpl John L. GREENSLADE - 362353;
F/Sgt Ronald D. GRIFFIN - 560123;
Sgt Ernest C.J. IVAMY - 561578 - death registered at Cardiff;
Cpl Montague G. LECKIE - 23136 - death registered at Bromley;
LAC John A. RAE - 536791;
LAC Henry D. SANDFORD - 537402, and
LAC Joseph H. WATSON - 612815.

It's known that Montrose was bombed by the Luftwaffe; 6 personnel died.

Aircraft losses for this day:
Audax I - K5170 - 9 FTS - u/c collapsed on landing Hullavington
Blenheim I - K7154 - 5 BGS - crashed on landing at Jurby.

Missed my thread for the unaccounted airmen 25-10-1940 but now ascertained that I both dates 24 and 25-10-1940 amalgamated into one thread. Sorry for that.

Just for the record, Roc L.3172 was being flown by P/O Najbicz with Sgt Ironside, the later of which was sent to Hasler hospital with concussion.

Not Unaccounted according to Henk but here is how

AC Harry Clack aged 16 died on 25/10/1940..

Henk,
Cause of death of the following is "Due to enemy action-bombing" at Montrose.
4 Heinkel 111's of Geschwader 26 in Norway attacked the airfield killing five and wounding a further 21. Hangers were damaged,4 Masters and 111sqn Hurricanes destroyed on the ground also the town was shot up for good measure.

Hi Henk,

No.233 Sqn ORB records:

24/10/40
Hudson N7257

At 1530 in JZTA 5015 sighted and attacked another He115. The rear gunner was killed, it is believed that the rear gunner of the E/A was also killed. Continued patrol, nothing further sighted.

Monthly summary confirms that this was Sgt Knowles.

Details of IVAMY below. Henk had him as KOAS, but I can't find him in Flight.

PERTHSHIRE GIRL'S POISON DEATH Airman's Widow Tells of Bid to Break Liaison verdict of felo de se was returned at
“... Cardiff lodging house. Both were naked. The inquest was Ernest Clement John Ivamy (28), of Inverness Road, Portsmouth, and Ida Mary Potter (20), of Invermay, ... ”
