All suspect crews for this incident may have been:

Swordfish: Flying Officer Alfred John Whillier, Aircraftsman A/C.1 William Arthur Murray and for Hart Trainer K6532 of 3ERFTS Sergt. Henry Garnett Jenkins who were killed in a collision at "Fontley near Botley", on this date


However can't track Whillier to 810 Sqn (only 58 Sqn)

Can anyone confirm crews? Thanks

FAA A/c Units and Ships (Sturtivant & Cronin) confirms the crew of the Swordfish and adds that Whillier was RAF.

This was reported in The Times the following day; Jenkins was 74229 and Murray 563270.

"One of the occupants of the Hart jumped with his parachute but landed in the top of a tree and was killed. The other occupant was killed in the machine. The training machine caught fire in the air and fell in pieces."

May have to add this to my fatal parachute baleout list I wonder who jumped from Swordfish the likelihood was Murray - I think they the newspapers have there aircraft mixed up. the Training Machine was flying solo with Jenkins

Yes, Paul. I did wonder if the Hart was a 2-seater (trainer?) but thought it best not to confuse the issue.

F1180 confirms Whillier was the only one to use parachute and was the body in the tree.

Hart was flown solo. Whillier was on first solo on type with Murray.
