Thomas was a navigator on a British warplane during the Second World War. He was shot down over Arnham and the Dutch Resistance hid him and repatriated him. During the time he was hidden in Holland he was in a chicken run and he was scratched and became infected. He died in England of septicemia contracted in the chicken run.
