Beaufighter X [LZ230] of GATU flew into hillside near Gāru, Rājasthān (Garoo on Google Maps) during navex on this date (as per AB Serials). Gāru is about 400mls from Ranchi cemetery. A likely contender?

dg This was my great great Uncle. Nice to see him remembered. But why did his name turn up on here? Ian Rodie

Hi Ian

This was a project started by our old Dutch friend Henk to match up Commonwealth air force deaths with a cause of death.

Front line squadron members typically were recorded with their unit, for example, 45 Squadron, by CWGC.

Your GGU was one of the many hundreds who were serving with second line training or support units and their unit ID was not until recently recorded for public display. A strange quirk of fate that made it hard at times to easily determine what caused their death.

Project is being managed to completion by Alex here now.
