Hello,

From No. 137 Wing ORB (AIR 26/198), in the Senior Medical Officer's monthly résumé :

"On 7 April 1945 a liberty lorry ran into the front of a café in Lille at approx 1700 today. all 24 occupants sustained shock or injury or varying degree and they were all taken to the No. 30 British General Hospital Lille. 18 remaining and six returning to sick quarters Biache. Sgt Armtrong, Sgt Finney, Cpl Trethewey, LAC Hart, LAC Blair and LAC Thornton were the most seriously injured."

No mention of the death of Sgt Finney on 14th April, but the fact that he's buried in Lille, where the accident occured and where was the hospital in which he was brought, leads to the fact he died of the wounds sustained in his accident in an hospital in Lille, probably known as hôpital Calmette here.

He was a member of No. 6226 Servicing Echelon, servicing the Mitchells of No. 226 Squadron, based at B50 Vitry-en-Artois, near Douai. Biache is the name of a village next to Vitry-en-Artois, full name is Biache Saint Vaast.
