During the afternoon of 2nd December 1940 Whitley P4958 crashed near Linton on Ouse and in the hours that followed the bomb load exploded. I have a note that there were possibly five ground crew killed while fighting the fire, Henk, I notice you dont have any of the names below listed so do you know how they met their end please ? If any were as a result of this incident near Linton on Ouse I would be very interested to learn it.
Any idea of their identities please....
One possible is AC2 Frederick P Griffiths RAF (1250935), aged 24. Buried Newton on Ouse Churchyard, Yorkshire. The local churchyard for Linton's casualties.
The others, if indeed they were killed, must have been buried in their home towns.
Using Geoff's Search Engine can anyone say where the following died please..
Walter Douglas Victor ALDRIDGE 914347
Alfred George HASLETT 913403 (MiD on 1st Jan 1941)
Alfred John PATTERSON 292439
Robert SMITH 625232
Basil Harvey Simmonds WORTH 1150072
or perhaps if the explosion took place before midnight, perhaps...
Arthur William GIBBONS 1258420

Hi folks, Bulmer district is spot on for the area a mile north of Linton airfield where this Whitley came down so its looking like we have our five.
It also gives slightly extra information in that as the aircraft crashed at 16.14hrs on 2nd December it was some hours until the bomb/s went up after midnight on the 3rd.
Superb result, many thanks. regards Rich.
