I'm new to this forum so please excuse my ignorance - what does ORB stand for and what does AIR (plus different numbers) refer to? I want research my father's RAF service record & his squadron activities

ORB: Operations Record Book = Daily diary of Squadron activity.

AIR 27/1547 refer to the ORB for 263 Squadron which is held at the National Archives in Kew, London. AIR meaning Airforce related, 27 being the category for ORB's and 1547 being the individual number for the 263 Squadron ORB.
