AC1 Ashard was mentioned in the RAF Aldergrove station ORB:

July 19th 1945, “Marine craft of the Marine Craft Section, Antrim, stood by for Air/Sea Rescue patrols in Lough Neagh during the flights of the Royal party to and from Londonderry.
The visit was unfortunately marred by the death of AC1 R.E. Ashard of the Marine Craft Section who fell overboard from a pinnace and was drowned despite a gallant rescue attempt by AC1 McLoughlin, who has been recommended for a Mention in Despatches.”
