Malcolm,

P.C. WRIGHT 754616. I am not sure that it will help but his recommendation for the AFM was raised by No. 267 Sqn (Air 2/9036) and gazetted 1 Jan 1945, not long before his death. It reads "This airman joined the Squadron in January 1942. From October 1941 to January 1942 he had been on operations with no 84 Sqn Flying Blenheims. He was in he Western Desert from Alamain to Tunis and subsequently in Northern Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia. He has shown outstanding flying ability whilst employed as a Wireless Operator (Air)".

I would guess that 267 Sqn raised the recommendation on him leaving the squadron but I know not where he went thereafter.

Hi Jim

Thanks for that.

As he was registered in Selby I wonder if he was posted to Burn, which is the only airfield covered by the Selby registration area.

Hello,

Re: Peter Charles WRIGHT.

The following entry in BLME1/103, looks interesting:

27 Nov 1941
84 Sqn.
Blenheim IV Z9538
Op: Army Co-operation.

Took off 1330, LG 75, to bomb Axis motor transport near El Cascia and damaged by flak over Ridge 4041. Belly-landed at base with its hydraulics unserviceable. Not repaired; SOC 18.9.42.

Sgt J D McKillop
P/O S G Turner*
Sgt Wright

See:
Royal Air Force Bomber Losses in the Middle East and Mediterranean Vol.1: 1939-1942.
Gunby,David & Pelham Temple.
Hinckley:Midland Publishing,2006.
p.103.

* Possibly, 920234/(68718) Sidney George TURNER RAFVR, later F/L. DFC, No.88 Sqn. + 13/8/1944.

No corresponding entry in Warner's Bristol Blenheim (2nd.ed.) p.486.

Joseph Clifford Farrer was my grandmother's 1st husband - all I know about him is that the reason he is buried at Houghton Malherbe which is the parish church covering Gravity Green in Kent, is that his son is buried there. Peter Farrer was killed in 1942 in a shooting accident aged 13 near Dudley where he was at boarding school. Doris Charlotte Farrer nee Holt my step grandmother was according to family legend the owner of the Who'd a Thought It pub in Grafty Green.

I would be very interested in finding how how any why Joseph Farrer is buried there. Does any of this help?

Gary

WRIGHT, Peter Charles - W/O ( WoP/AG ) - 754616 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at the Market Square, Selby.

Furthermore, the Yorkshire Evening Post of August 13th reported the following:

DEAD BENEATH WINDOW
An inquest will be held tomorrow on Peter Charles Wright (27), a warrant officer in the Royal Air Force, stationed at Riccall, who was found dead in Selby Market Place, in front of the Londesborough Hotel, having apparently fallen from a top floor window. He was a native of Salisbury.
