F/O James Ramage "Jimmy" Addams #16143 was known as the "Lucky Pilot" as he survived a number of crashes and two quite serious ons in Gamecocks with 43 Sqn in 1927

I was wondering if anyone can supply the serial for the aircraft involved ?

Incident 1: Date Tuesday 11 January 1927

From

Thursday 13 January 1927 , The Scotsman , Midlothian, Scotland
AIRMAN'S PREDICAMENT
CRASH INTO CLUMP OF TREES
JAMMED BETWEEN TREE TRUNKS
Foe. Crash, and a Lucky Escape Having Aerodrome, near Chichester, on Tuesday to fly to Upavon
Wiltshire , Flying Officer Addams , of the 43 rd Squadron, R . A . F .,
encountered thick mist over Goodwood Downs '. He decided to return , and was circling over .Goodwood golf links when hw ran
into more mist , and crashed into a clump of trees on Trundle Hill, the machine snapped several trees, and finally became wedged between two trunks. Crowds of men and caddies from the links, going to the airman’s assistance, , found had escaped
with a on his face, but was unable to get out of the aeroplane, parts of which sawn away before he could be extricated.

I have seen this reported as "Woodcock" But I believe it may be Gamecock as 43 Sqn were flying these at the time

Incident 2: Date Tuesday 18th October 1927

Wednesday 19 October 1927 , Aberdeen Journal , Aberdeenshire, Scotland
LUCKY R.A.F. PILOT.
Unhurt After Crashing from 1000 Feet.
Known as The Lucky Pilot Flying- Officer J. Addams, Tangmere Aerodrome, West Sussex, had a remarkable
escape yesterday when his machine crashed from a height of 1000 feet into a field near Chichester. He was badly shaken
and received slight cut on the face, but was able to return to the aerodrome calmly smoking a cigarette, apparently
little the worse. Flying-Officer Addams has been in several crashes, and has always come out of them without serious injury.
His machine yesterday was completely wrecked

James Ramage Addams ended up as a Group Captain with AFC and survived WW2

Thanks

The location for incident 1 matches to Gamecock J8418.
However, AB J serials has this machine as delivered to 43 Squadron in May 1927 and crashed some time in 1928.....

Sean

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have only just had a chance to see what J Serials says and yes 'Wrong Year' so definitely Gamecock J8418 11/01/1927 and not "c.28"
