They were all killed when the 11.15 express train from King's Cross to Newcastle crashed near Durham at 05.40. The train hit derailed wagons from a goods train at Browney Junction, between Ferryhill and Durham, resulting in 10 deaths.

ALLEN, Kenneth John - LAC - 957590 - registered Kettering

COWAN, Frederick Robert - Sgt - 328770 - the Statutpry Deaths Register on the Scotlnd's People website states that he died at 9.00pm at 598 Keppochhill Road, Glasgow, due to chronic bronchitis

LAYCOCK, Harry - LAC - 1309515 - the Sunderland Echo of January 8th 1946 reports on the inquest into his death, due to 'Hypostatic pneumonia set up by progressive muscular atrophy.' He had been discharged from the R.A.F. in May 1945, having enlisted in 1940.

B J Oosthuizen 607526V attached to the SAAF Depot, died in a motorcycle accident in Cairo when he struck a stationary vehicle at 18:15 hours

Kenneth John Allen 957590 , a Flight Mechanic engines attached to Number 1 PHU , was admitted seriously ill to RAF hospital St. Athan on 3 August 1945 and was diagnosed as suffering with pulmonary tuberculosis. He became dangerously ill on 23 August and was transferred to the Rushden House Sanatorium on 15 October 1945. Discharged to home on 22 November 1945 , he died at Carlton Street, Kettering , with his mother, Mrs. W. Morris, at his bedside

Dennis Warren 222234 | attached to RAF Melksham | was admitted seriously ill to RAF hospital Wroughton on 2 December 1945 at 19:15 Hours and became dangerously ill on 7 December at 16:30 Hours. He was transferred to Kewstoke Hospital, Weston Super Mare, where he died of left lobar pneumonia
