In 2004 I self published Top Secret War Bird of WW11, the story of my late father's service as a photographer with the Marine Aircraft Experimental Establishment and the Airborne Forces Experimental Establishment. It contained several never before published photographs. The print run was 1,000 and the price £6.99 a copy. While it sold out, it was a labour of love rather than a financial enterprise after costs. Since then I have seen copies advertised at much higher prices, up to £35. Having just discovered a dozen or so in the garage, I now wonder if I should have hung onto more!? I am currently working on a follow up but as a DVD rather than a book. This would be easier, cheaper and could accommodate more photographs. The world of publishing has changed so much during the last decade. I would welcome feedback from authors who still self publish regarding the state of the market currently.
