CAR "KNOCKED MEN INTO THE AIR"
Airman Was Killed: Driver Did Not Pay Enough Attention, Says Coroner
Driving along the Lincoln-Newark road near Swinderby R.A.F. Sation on a frosty, moonlight night, with two side-lights, two head-lights and a fog-light in use, John Hargreaves (38), a haulage contractor, of Parker Street, Derby, collided with two airmen, "knocked them up into the air," and one of them died before he reached the R.A.F. sick quarters.
The dead airman, Ronald Walter Studman (21), a flight-sergeant in the R.A.F., whose home address was at Horsall, Surrey, was walking back to camp with his companion on the near-side of the road with his back to oncoming traffic.
Recording a verdict of "Accidental Death," the Coroner (Major W. P. Pattinson), said all the evidence necessary for his purpose had been heard.
"It seems clear that he was not paying the consistent attention that he should have been apying, especially on a night like this. He should have been able to oull out suddenly. It was his duty to do so, even if it meant skidding."

WEGNER, Kurt - German Air Force - the Banbury Guardian of January 24th 1946 reported:

DEATH OF GERMAN P.O.W.
L. Corpl. Kurt Wegner, aged 23, of the P.O.W. Camp at Arncott, near Bicester, died in the Horton General Hospital on Thursday from the results of an accident the previous day, when he is said to have been crushed between a lorry and a telegraph pole.
