Alex, re Smith. I think that should be 'Seend' churchyard. So far as I'm aware there is no 'Seems' in Wiltshire, but the Seend church is Holy Cross.

Hello
SMITH, Anthony Matthew - F/Lt - 124692 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at the District Hospital, Devizes. The Wiltshire Times and Trowbridge Advertiser of March 30th 1946 printed a lengthy tribute, and reports that he died after a long illness:
'Joining the R.A.F. in June, in September 1941 he went to Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme, gaining his wings and a commission, and was posted to Charlottedtwon, Prince Edward Island. Here he was engaged in anti-submarine patrols of the St. Lawrence estuary and was a navigation instructor. After two and a half years in Canada he flew back as pilot of a Dakota to Prestwick, and finally became pilot and captain of a Lancaster Pathfinder bomber, stationed in Hampshire.
Last July Flt.-Lt. Smith was admitted to the R.A.F. Hospital at Ely, and transferred to the Devizes Hospital in November.'
Regards
Simon
