STEPHEN, William John - Air Fitter - L/FX.99624 - the Aberdeen Press and Journal of April 25th 1946 reported the following:

Father and Two Sons Feared Lost Off Ayr Coast
Three members of the same family, all well-known in the village of Boddam, are believed to have lost their lives when a mishap befell their boat off the west coast of Scotland.
The men are Mr. Peter Stephens (53) and his two sons Messrs. William John Stephen (22) and James Stephen (17).
On Monday afternoon Mr. Stepehn and his two sons set off from Troon to take their boat to Fleetwood with the intention of making a stop at Girvan on the way.
Distress signals from the craft off Girvan were answered by the dispatch of the Girvan lifeboat. The boat was comparatively close to the shore, but the lifeboat crew found no trace of either the craft or the men.
Mr. William John Stephen, who is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen, was home on leave from the Fleet Air Arm and was shortly to be demobilised.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen's other son, Peter, the eldest, won the D.F.M. for distinguished service as an air crew member of the R.A.F.
