JENKINS, Leslie - F/Sgt - 1850990 - the Bury Free Press of May 31st 1946 reported the following:
Cyclist, Glad to be Alive, Killed in Night Accident
"It appears that on this night these young men had been a little excited and glad to be alive, and, perhaps, were not taking the care that ordinary prudent persons would have been taking," commented the Diss and District Coroner (Mr. W. C. F. Blundell), when, at an inquest at Thetford in Friday, he returned a verdict of "Death by Misadventure" on Flight-Sergt. Leslie Jenkins, R.A.F., stationed at Honington, whose home address is at Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan.
Jenkins was one of a party of cyclists returning to Honington on Wednesday and he was in collision with a motor van near Thetford. Sergt. Raymond William Thatcher releated how deceased was cycling back to Honington with other airmen, after having had a drink or two in Thetford. "I was riding about 100 yards behind Jenkins when I called to him to get to the correct side of the road. Shortly afterwards I saw an approaching vehicle and when I next saw Jenkins he was lying across the middle of the road," witness said.
The driver of the van, Edwards Joseph Sargeant, of Highbury, said he saw a number of lights, and came to the conclusion that it was a bunch of cyclists, whose road conduct did not appear to be at all good. Witness considered that the deceased was pulling out to pass the other cyclists when the accident occurred, and his head must have struck the off-side of his van.

LEWIN, Leslie Thomas - Sgt - 2202089 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at Munster. The G.R.O. list has his unit as HQ (U) 85 Grp.
