WORDSWORTH, Walter - LAC - 3002193 - the Western Daily Press of July 10th 1946 reported the following:

SIX INJURED IN COACH MISHAP
Inquest Opened on Young R.A.F. Man.
At the Melksham R.A.F. Hospital, yesterday, Mr. H. Dale (Wiltshire coroner) opened the inquest on L.A.C. Walter Wordsworth (20), of Goole, Yorks, who died at the hospital yesterday from shock and haemorrhage following a rupture of the liver and spleen.
Wordsworth was one of a party of R.A.F. personnel from Melksham who had met at Chippenham station in the early hours of Monday by motor coach and driven to Melksham.
Half a mile from the camp the coach struck one of the electricity company's poles, which was completely knocked off, then hit a tree, travelled 20 yards on the pavement, jumped a ditch a yard wide and a yard deep and finished up, without overturning, on the grass of the electricity company's office, when the front of the vehicle crashed headlong into a tree.
Of the 30 occupants, six were injured and taken to the R.A.F. Hospital, where eight others were treated for minor injuries.

Regards

Simon
