Knowing that MiD citations are hard to find, I herewith post some upon which I stumbled, hoping they may be of use to somebody:
ALDERSON, F.H., Acting Flight Sergeant (560522) - No.10 Squadron, Leeming (Fitter I) Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // Flight Sergeant Alderson has been Senior NCO of A Flight of this Squadron since November 1941. He has achieved magnificent results from his men during a difficult period of change-over from one type of aircraft to another. When all his personnel were inexperienced, he got his aircraft operationally serviceable in the minimum time. On any occasion that Flight Sergeant Alderson has been called upon to get a job rushed through he has never failed and he can be relied upon to achieve the best results in the shortest possible time.
ARKINSTALL, Q.D., Corporal (1014023) - No.77 Squadron, Station Leeming (Clerk, General Duties) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // As NCO in charge of No.77 Squadron Orderly Room, Corporal Arkinstall, both by his own work and by his example, is largely responsible for the efficiency of the administrative side of this Squadron. He works long hours, seven days a week, and is at all times conscientious, keen and willing.
DASHWOOD, E., Sergeant (567498) No.77 Squadron, Station Leeming (Fitter II) Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO works at all times of the day and night with a willingness and keenness which is really outstanding. His example has been largely responsible for a similar spirit which is found in the Maintenance Flight of No.77 Squadron. He has been in the Maintenance Flight since 9th January 1938, and for a major part of this period he was the senior NCO of this Flight.
DAVIES, S.M., Flight Sergeant (333563) - No.77 Squadron, Station Leeming (Fitter Armourer) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO is strongly recommended on two separate counts. Firstly, he is particularly conscientious and hard working in the performance of his routine duties, and displays outstanding energy and zeal at all times. Secondly, he has been responsible for the development of a particularly successful and satisfactory clear view panel on the rear turret (F.N.A.) on Whitley aircraft. This clear view panel is far superior to other types, and its design and development were entirely the work of Sergeant Davies, acting entirely on his own initiative.
HENDERSON, Duncan St. Claire Lawson, S/L (76142) Station Leeming (Medical) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // He has been Medical Officer since the opening of the Station and, by his keenness and devotion to duty, has raised and maintained the Medical Section and Equipment to a high state of efficiency. The health of all the airmen is remarkably high and the incidence of sickness remarkably low, Despite a great increase in the number of men on the Station, the incidence of sickness this year is exactly half of what it was last year which is due very largely to the hard work and skill of this officer. He takes a keen interest in his work and has shown determination and energy in dealing with aircraft crashes. He works hard and is always cheerful and untiring in looking after the medical side of this large Station.
HEYWOOD, G.A., Warrant Officer (357694) No.77 Squadron, Leemiing (Armourer) Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This Warrant Officer, by continuous hard work and genuine efficiency, has been responsible for the outstanding good work of the Armament Section of this squadron. He has been responsible for maintaining a high standard of efficiency in his Section, regardless of the extremely arduous weather to which we are subject. The efficiency of his section has been largely due to the example which he himself sets in hard work and devotion to duty, Warrant Officer Heywood has been in charge of No.77 Squadron Armament Section since 8th May 1941.
HOWARTH, J.T., Corporal (993526) - Station Leeming (Aircraft Hand, General Duties) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO has been in charge of the Fire Section for a year. He has never spared himself in his efforts to achieve and maintain the highest standard of fire fighting and has been largely responsible for training the personnel of the fire section. After an attack on this station by enemy aircraft , Sergeant [sic] Howarth showed great determination and courage in fighting the fires which resulted and, by his personal conduct, set a high standard to all concerned.
KNIGHT, Reginald Roland, F/L (87285) - Station Headquarters, Leeming - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation for an MBE raised 21 February 1942; MiD substituted // Flight Lieutenant Knight is Station Adjutant and is a most loyal officer, possessing service knowledge, tact, energy and drive above the average, combined with a high conception of duty and discipline. He works very long hours and sets an excellent example in all he does. His thoughts centre round the well-being and efficiency of the station. His knowledge and advice he places freely at the disposal of all members of the station. His hobby is work and his aim the vigorous prosecution of the war. He is untiring in his efforts and all his work remains at a consistently high level. In France, in the early part of this war, he was twice mentioned in despatches for devotion to duty.
MACHIN, A.J., Corporal (944788) - No.77 Squadron, Station Leeming (Fitter II Engines) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO provides a most outstanding example of keenness and devotion to duty as corporal in charge of an aircraft. He will do continuous special work for long hours, without an idea of rest, and is always keen and willing for more work. He is extremely conscientious, and is continuously endeavoring to improve his technical knowledge. His maintenance crew is one of the finest in the Squadron, due largely to the example he sets.
MELLOR, Arthur,F/L (43882) Station Leeming (Technical, Signals) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This officer has been in charge of the Signals Section since the opening of the station. He has worked hard and shown great devotion to duty in bringing his Section to a high state of efficiency. He has devoted a great deal of time in raising the standard of wireless knowledge amongst air crews. He is extremely keen and untiring in his efforts and spends long hours and much hard work in the interests of his Section.
ODONNELL, E., Flight Sergeant (349188) Station Leeming (Photographer) - Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO came to the Station in June 1941. Since then, by his hard work, keenness and devotion to duty, he has raised the photographic section to a very high degree of efficiency. He takes the greatest possible interest in his work and, largely due to his personal efforts, the standard of night photography has been raised to a very high level, as results prove. The whole of his work is characterized by efficiency, enthusiasm and an outstanding desire to do all he can to get good results in night photography.
REEVE, W., Leading Aircraftman (1012191) ) No.10 Squadron, Leeming (Aircraft Hand, General Duties) Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // Leading Aircraftman Reeve has been employed as Squadron Operations Room clerk since November 1940. His work at all times has been of a very high order. Leading Aircraftman Reeve takes a lively interest in his work and the smooth running of his section of the Squadron is largely due to his efforts.
ROBERTSON, W.M., Warrant Officer (564302) No.10 Squadron, Leeming (Fitter Armourer) Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // Warrant Officer Robertson has filled the post of Squadron Armament Officer since the outbreak of hostilities and has brought the efficiency of his section up to a very high standard. The results achieved by the Armament Section during the intense period of activity in the summer, and during the difficult stand-by periods in the intense cold of the winter are attributable to Warrant Officer Robertsons unsparing efforts.
ROSSNER, Archibald, A/F/L (43718) Station Leeming (Technical, Armament) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This officer has been Station Armament Officer since the opening of the Camp. He has shown great energy, determination and devotion to duty in the performance of his work. He has worked under arduous and at times dangerous conditions and has always shown the same cheerful spirit and has never spared himself in his important work. He has been of great assistance to the Air Crews, who have greatly benefited by the knowledge imparted to them. By his untiring efforts he has brought the Armament Section to a high degree of efficiency.
SAMS, R.G., Corporal (944393) Station Leeming (Driver, Motor Transport) - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO has been in the Motor Transport Section for a year. By his organizing ability, enthusiasm and hard work he has helped largely in building up a highly efficient Motor Transport Section. Despite long working hours, often in very adverse weather conditions, he has never failed to inspire all subordinates by his cheerfulness and buoyant manner. He has often worked throughout the night in keeping the runways clear of snow. He always sets an excellent example by his devotion to duty and hard work.
SHEPHERD, William James Reardon, F/L (84799) - Station Headquarters, Leeming - Mention in Dispatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation for an OBE raised 21 February 1942; MiD substituted. May have been Acting Squadron Leader when recommended. // This officer possesses drive, determination, energy, enthusiasm, cheerfulness and a marked devotion to duty. All these qualities he applies and concentrates on his work. For the past year he has been Senior Intelligence/Operations Officer and all his efforts in this position have been of a high standard. His one aim is to accumulate knowledge which might be of value and help to the flying crews and he imparts this knowledge with consistent success. As Photographic Officer, he has brought this important Section to a high degree of proficiency and considerable success has been achieved on the station with night photography. In addition to these duties, Squadron Leader Shepherd runs other work on the Station with gratifying results. He is undoubtedly an Officer with a high sense of duty who works long and untiring hours and never spares himself in his efforts to help the flying crews.
THOMAS, Albert Victor, Flight Sergeant (566844) No.10 Squadron, Leeming (Fitter II) - Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO has served in the squadron since the outbreak of war and has shown outstanding keenness and ability. He was so marked for these qualities that he was promoted Sergeant in February and Flight Sergeant in December 1941. Since this time he has rendered very good service and his flight has become an efficient working unit under his charge throughout the difficult period of changeover from one type of aircraft to another.
TOWNER, Walter John., Flight Sergeant (347753) No.77 Squadron (Fitter 2A) - Mention in Despatches awarded as per London Gazette dated 11 June 1942. Recommendation raised 21 February 1942. // This NCO, who is the Flight Sergeant in charge of B Flight of this squadron, is continuously on duty whenever there is flying to be done, or any flying in progress. He consistently works with complete disregard to his personal comfort and well-being, and at all times thinks only of the work to be done. He sets a most striking example of devotion to duty to the whole of his Flight. Flight Sergeant in charge of B Flight since August 1940 and has been consistently hard working at all times.
