Hi all

Hit a bit of a road block with this chap.

He joined 41 Sqn on 11 Jun 24 on his first operational posting after training on a SSC, and was still with the unit on the 31 Dec 25 nominal roll.

However, he is not mentioned again and next appears in documentation as KIFA, when he dived into the sea at Leysdown, Isle of Sheppey, in a Bristol fighter of AGS Eastchurch on 8 Apr 25. None of my searches (e.g. Flight archive) reveal when he was posted to AGS.

Does anyone have AFL's for Jan-Apr 1925 that might give me an indication of his date of posting, please?

Lastly, as an aside, he was posted to 5 OCW on 25 Apr 1918 as ground staff (later remustered as a flt cadet). Can anyone tell me where 5 OCW was located at the time, please?

Thanks
Steve

Steve, Perhaps these are of help:
No 5 Cadet Wing
This was formed on 1 August 1917 at Hursley Park, Winchester and disbanded on 10 September 1917. It reformed from No 7 and 8 Cadet Wings on 18 September 1917 at Halton Park, moving to Hastings on 22 October and then to Dibgate Camp, Shorncliffe by 31 December 1918, where it and disbanded on 24 January 1919.

As a result of an accident at Leysdown near Eastchurch, to a Bristol Fighter of Armament and Gunnery School, East-church, at 11.20 a.m. on April 8, Pilot Officer Anthony Cecil Carbery Mason, the pilot of the aircraft, was killed.
