Re Knox:

I think you mean Yundum, Malcolm, now known as Banjul International Airport.

Alex, and Malcolm

UK
FREEMAN, Ernest Charles - Sgt - 1203634 - not sure about Barnet - perhaps a typo Malcolm? FreeBMD has Ernest C. Freeman, aged 39, death registered at Barnstaple. The National Probate Calendar records that he died at Grangewood, Torrs Park, Ilfracombe.

PEARD, Eric Lewis - Cpl - 1461915 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at Wellhouse Hospital, Barnet.

GAMBIA
KNOX, Thomas Edward Chambers - LAC - 536623 - the National Probate Calendar records that he died at Tundum, Bathurst, Gambia, and also records his third Christian name as Charles, rather than Chambers.

Regards

Simon

Having searched the Internet I'm reasonably sure there is no such place as Tundum, Simon. I suggest the 'T' of Tundum is a typo for the 'Y' of Yundum - the two letters are next to each other on the QWERTY keyboard.

Fair point Brian, thanks. As I mentioned in my post, the NPC entry also got his third name wrong - perhaps when it was typed/typset the original source's handwriting wasn't the most legible.

Simon

I just repeated what was in the GRO list, I should have realised at the time it was wrong, my apologies

I also should have written Barnstaple not Barnet, not having a good day today.
