What caused the death of and/or what was the place of death registration for:

Air Mech 2.Cl. Walter R. BANNISTER - FAA/FX.83837 - HMS Royal Arthur - killed on active service.

If on board an aircraft, possible aircraft losses:

Comper Swift (whatever type of a/c this may be !) - Pickhurst Corner, Pulborough, Sussex.
Hector I - K9754 - CLE = Central Landing Establishment - crashed in forced landing near Ringway.
Oxford II - P1831 - 14 FTS - crashed (no further details).

Regards and thanks for your help.
Henk.

Hi Henk
First, the Comper Swift was a civilian single engined light a/c designed in about 1930 and built in small numbers up to WW2, the odd single example might have found it's way into RAF hands after the war started.
Bannister ,20, is registered at Spilsby, Lincolnshire and is the right place to register a death connected to HMS Royal Arthur, which was a shore establishment at Skegness at the time of his death. He is listed under 17/2/41 on http://www.naval-history.net/xDKCas1941-02FEB.htm, simply as Killed.
Regards
Dick

Comper Swift (whatever type of a/c this may be !) - Pickhurst Corner, Pulborough, Sussex.

This was on the strength of 247 (F) Sqn in 1941 and used a Squadron runabout. On one of these flights it developed engine trouble and forcelanded at Pulborough

I do not think anyone was killed and its actual identity is a mystery

I asked this question on AB-IX and I got an answer!

This was Gipsy Swift G-ABWW. It was damaged beyond repair and was given to No.
139 (Tunbridge Wells) Squadron, ATC, as an instructional airframe. Allotted
2539M on 11.3.41.
