Sgt C S Hobbs - 228 Sqd

Can anyone help with what the " C S" stand for his service number was 1644857 - he was badly injured in the crash of Sunderland DW110 on 31.1.44 he did not return to active service as far as we know. We are trying to trace his family but the C S is causing some difficulties.
