Hello Everybody,
I have been writing a fiction book based on a Hurricane squadron set in the Battle of Britain since 2018 and now I am in my nth version and looking to hone in on the details.
No doubt there will be more questions, but here are some of the ones that spring to mind...
1. What rank did the squadron adjutant hold?
2. How many personnel did a FC squadron in 11 Group typically have?
3. What buildings were standard on a FC squadron?
4. What was a pilot's pay per rank, and how often were they paid?
5. What brand of cigarette(s) did pilots smoke?
6. How much was beer and spirits in the squadron bar?
7. What were prices for generic items?
8. When the Hurricanes were upgraded from two-bladed to three-bladed Rotols, were these done at the squadron, or sent to an MU/CRO?
9. When the Hurricanes were upgraded from Browning Mk II to Mk II*, were these done at the squadron, or sent to an MU/CRO?
10. Were BDU available in early 1940? (I think these were later.)
11. What types/styles of uniforms did pilots have? (I know there was No.1 Dress).
