Hello all
Apologies if this has been post already, but I just saw this snippet of news from the July 2020 issue of Flypast:
Researchers can now browse and download thousands of images of New Zealand’s military aviation history, thanks to the online release of digitised photographs from the Air Force Museum of New Zealand’s archives.
When the Christchurch-based attraction began reviewing and updating its IT system in 2015, the opportunity arose to realise the goal of making the archives searchable online. Matthew O’Sullivan has been the museum’s Keeper of Photographs for more than 25 years and has worked on the digitisation programme almost single-handedly. “This is a huge step forward that will revolutionise the way the public can engage with our collections,” he said. “We hope that people enjoy browsing and we encourage them to keep returning to see what’s new.”
There are currently around 5,000 images online, less than 1% of the total archive, but more are being added every day. The database can be accessed at: www.airforcemuseum.co.nz/photographs
